US Government Shutdown for 16 Days
From October 1 to October 16 US government faces a shutdown because congress did not pass fiscal federal budget for the fiscal federal year. The 16 day shutdown was the 3rd longest shutdown in US history. Earlier, it was for 21 day in 1995-96 and 18 day shutdown in 1978 are the longest shutdown in US government history. During this shutdown, around 8 lacs federal employees were furloughed (Temporary leave). Moody’s analytics estimated $55 Billion economic loss because of US shutdown. US shutdown affects majorly on international market, US Employees, Tourism, Universities, International economy, US Military.
Boston Marathon Bomb Blast
On 15th April 2013, two pressure cooker bombs exploded at finishing line of Boston Marathon. In that blast 3 people were killed and 264 people got injured. The FBI came in action and after their investigation, they released photographs and video of 2 suspects on 18th April. After releasing the images suspects also killed an MIT police officer and carjacked an SUV and initiated exchange of gun fire. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was shot by police and died and Dzhokhar was injured but escaped. On 19th April FBI find Dzhokhar in a boat in his backyard and arrested him.
Typhoon Haiyan Destroyed Tacloban city in Philippines
November 2013 was the disasters month for the people in Philippines as Typhoon Haiyan hits the country. Over 6000 people were killed in one of the strongest typhoon ever recorded. It was the deadliest storm after typhoon tehlma which hits the country in way back 1991. Nearly 8 Lakh people were evacuated from dangerous place to safe place despite of the preparation. Typhoon Haiyan also known as Typhoon Yolanda which completely destroyed Coastal area of Tacloban city. Over 2 Million people were left homeless in typhoon.
Syria Conflict – Civil War
Syrian civil war was an armed conflict between forces royal to the Ba’ath party & Syrian protesters. Ba’ath party is currently laid by Bashar al-Assad who is the president of Syria. Syria’s geographical position and its foreign policy make Syria very important country. The war started in April 2011 and still continues in some part of the Syria. When US asked for authorization of the chemical weapons, Basher denied. After that, Basher cooperate with UN inspectors after Russia’s interference in it.
Westgate shopping mall attack Kenya
On 21st September’s morning some unidentified gunman attacked the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya. This brutal attack lasted for 3 days. In this attack, total 72 deaths were reported including 61 civilians, 6 Kenyan Soldiers, and 5 attackers. Over 200 people reported injured including male, female and children. The Islamist group al-shabaab claimed responsibility of this attack. According to them, the reason behind this attack was the involvement of Kenyan military in Somalia. Kenyan authorities didn’t announce any suspects for this attack.
