Time is very reputed magazine all around the world and has millions of readers. Every year Time conducts one reader’s poll to choose person of the year. In this poll Time lists all influential people from various fields like scientists, actors, politicians, sportsperson and writers who were in limelight during the year. Readers have to choose one person from the poll and Time will declare the winner after the poll is over.
Last year in 2015 German Chancellor Angela Merkel became the Time person of the year. Narendra Modi won Time Person of the Year poll with 18% vote and well ahead of other personalities. The closest contenders of Narendra Modi including Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Julian Assange got 7% vote. In this poll there were many popular faces including Mark Zuckerberg and Hillary Clinton.

Narendra Damodardas Modi, well-recognized as NaMo was born on 17th September 1950 in a humble family of Vadnagar, district Mehsana. As a child, he helped his father Damodardas Mulchand by selling tea at railway station and later on he started his own tea stall near a bus station. He has done his schooling in his home town Vadnagar and earned master’s degree in Political Science from the Gujarat University. His school teachers called him as an average student, but a bright and brilliant debater. At the age of eight, he came to know about Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He joined RSS during his college days as a pracharak or propagandist.
Modi got married with Jashodaben Chimanlal at the age of 18 but they lived very little time together. He soon estranged with his wife and decided to follow an itinerant life. Modi didn’t want to disclose his marriage that’s why he kept it secret for most of his political career but while filing nomination for a parliamentary seat in general elections of 2014, he admitted the existence of his wife.
Narendra Modi was very much influenced by Politics during his childhood and this passion, towards Politics made him a successful leader of Indian Politics. During 1990s, he has done Public Relations and Image Management courses in US and at the same time he also served in New Delhi as an official spokesperson of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party).
Modi is considered as a key strategist of his party. He played an important role in 2009 General elections that was finally won by the UPA led by Indian National Congress Party. Under 2014 general elections, he secured a historic win and gained a crown of Prime Minister of India. Narendra Modi took oath on 26th may as India’s 15th Prime Minister at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Modi has also been accredited for the fantastic victories of BJP in Haryana and Maharashtra in October 2014.
Previously, he was a four-time Chief Minister of the state Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. Under his more than 13 years tenure as a Chief Minister, he made several big developments in Gujarat state. Today, Gujarat is recognized as one of the safest and most developed state of India. Now, he is delivering same good governance to the complete nation. Due to his impeccable track record as a Chief Minister, he earned a great respect, love and trust to all over the country.
Under his leadership, Gujarat has maintained more than 10% GDP growth rate for over a decade and this growth was equal in Agriculture, Manufacturing and Service sectors.
