Recently Kerala was awarded as World’s top 10 tourist destination by lonely planet and now Kerala won award for sustainable tourism by United Nations. This prestigious award is great achievement for Kerala and will give momentum to Kerala tourism industry.
Kerala which popular for wonderful hill stations, sea shore, back water and wildlife. It is also known as God’s Own Country due to its natural beauty and great environment. On 24th January, Kerala was awarded by United Nations for sustainable tourism and its innovative policies. This was the first time ever, any state in India achieved such award by United Nations.
The state lifted the desired honor for its sustainable development initiative in the world renowned backwater resort of Kumarakom, a Kerala tourism release said on Thursday.
UNWTO award ceremony for Excellence and Innovation in tourism department which was held in Madrid, Spain. Kerala won the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) Ulysses Award for Innovation in Public Policy and Governance, which recognized as the highest honor given to the government for innovative initiatives policies which determining the global tourism and attracts more tourists.
Kerala tourism won this award because of its remarkable project in Kumarakom. This project is successfully joined with the local people and community with the hospitality industries and government department. They also created a brilliant model for empowerment and development for people of the local area and then they made sustainable eco friendly tourism.
Last year in March this Kumarakom project won the national award for best rural tourism and also won the PATA award for great environment.
