There are a few books and shows that have tickled my funny bone. Bergeron’s books host a show these days that brings the best stand-up comedians at the stage and it was a better comedy show than the ones I recently watched. The comedians also perform at channels like NBC and their March 2015 comedian was Sammy Obeid who is a writer and has also recently released his comedy album, Get Funny or Die Tryin. Though among the classic comedy books the one I like best is ‘Three Men in a boat’ which is a story of three friends and their hilarious journey down the Thames. There are a few comic books and novels that have been enjoyed by many and which were for people of different tastes and in different styles yet they all happened to entertain thoroughly. As there are various comedy books are available in market but only few of them are my favorite and i found them very popular amongst the peers. Here are 5 of them:
#1: A Confederacy of Dunces:
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole is a masterpiece novel which is based on a picaresque setting. It is a comic masterpiece, which is considered a cult classic and also a mainstream success. The characters are wholly original and the dialogues are true to life and it involves a series of low and high adventures in comedy. The hero of this novel is Ignatius Jacques Reily who is fractious, huge, obese and fastidious. Walker Percy’s efforts helped publish the novel in 1980.
#2: Dad Is Fat:
The author of “Dad Is Fat” is Jim Gaffigan who is a stand-up comedian and is mostly known for the legendary riffs that he had on bacon, Hot Pockets, manatees and McDonald’s. In the book he expresses all the joys and the horrors that life has with young children including the toddlers’ communication skills, the eating habits of young kids and other observations with a funny twist. This book is reminiscent of the great Fatherhood by Bill Cosby. Dad Is Fat involves sharply observed instances, is very funny, and is basically a cry for help from person who is bombarded by kids; he and his wife are victims in their home. This “Dad Is Fat” book was first published on January 1st, 2013.
#3: Seriously… I’m Kidding:
Seriously… I’m Kidding is some good writing by Ellen DeGeneres who is a super popular show host, stand-up comedian and a celebrity in her own right. She has a highly popular daytime show on air which has won more than 30 Emmys. She is upbeat and has a candour that makes her so funny and so loved. Seriously… I’m Kidding is the first book by Degeneres’ in eight years, and it gives us some funny yet sweet insights into her life. The book is hilarious and lively and very sweet and touching. The first edition of this book was published on 1st Jan 2011.
Fool is a work of Christopher Moore and is a vulgar tale. It has spanking, murder, maiming, unexplored heights of vulgarity treason as well as non-traditional grammar. Christopher Moore is a literary jester, who has great wit and also written the laurelled bestsellers like the Times of Olde Newe Yorke as Lamb, You Suck (no offense) and A Dirty Job. This is a twisted and very funny tale of a monarch and his daughters with plots, subplots, betrayals, revenge, lust and a ghost and all this is seen through the eyes of the man that is wearing a codpiece and on his head – bells.
#5: Barrel Fever:
Barrel Fever is the work of David Sedaris and in about David Sedaris world anything can happen. The book has Sedaris’s collection of stories and essays. The book takes us to the tour with a various types of characters like a suburban dad who saves money by performing surgery at home; a teenager committing suicide that almost incites a lynch mob at the funeral; a Santa who is so bitter that he abuses the elves. The stories are written with wit as well as empathy the essays and stories target the ridiculousbehaviour in our life. This book was first published online June 1st 1994, and other edition of this book was released on June 1st 1995 by Back Bay Books.
Although the books are written with a main aim of creating a comedy but they are insightful too. These authors made me realize their hidden self and also made me like their wit and emotions. I suggest you go ahead and read at least some of these. You will have fun I am sure.
